Onimusha: Way of the Sword Items
Two item families matter before launch: charms, which change how Musashi fights, and everything else, which mostly changes how he looks. Sword skins, haori, ally outfits and the mini soundtrack are vanity. Oni Armaments are the other mechanical bucket — limited-use weapons spent from blue souls. Spirit Mirrors gate the appearance menu. If a pre-order bonus is “missing” on minute ten, you have not found the mirror yet.
Charms — the ones that count
CAPCOM’s store copy is blunt: equipping charms strengthens Musashi. They sit on an equipment screen that unlocks as the campaign opens, not in the first courtyard. Known named charms before launch:
- Lion Dog — Standard digital pre-order.
- White Monkey — Deluxe / Premium Deluxe pre-order extra.
- Oni Lady, Little Dancer, Mentor — Deluxe Kit.
- Kubi Akari — complete the free demo; claimed on first full-game boot. PlayStation.Blog (25 August 2026) also ties a Musashi stat boost to the same flag.
- Lion Dogs trapped by Malice — campaign rescue beat Nihei described at the Future Games Show, not a demo pickup. Petting them in a trailer is flavour, not a build.
Exact stat lines are not on the Steam page. Anyone publishing “+12% Issen window” before September 4 is guessing. Charms are the reason to finish the demo and the reason Deluxe is the only paid kit with a mechanical argument. Calendar for Lion Dog and Early Adopter cutoffs: pre-order. Armaments (bow, gauntlet spenders) are a different bucket: Oni Armaments.
Sword appearances and outfits
Sealed Curse and White Lion are pre-order skins. Deluxe adds Bamboo & Panda, Whittled Oar, Raizan, Enryuu, Red Armor for Musashi, and the Crimson Lotus gauntlet skin. Premium Deluxe adds three haori (Hellfire, Moonlight, Cloudbiter) plus Okuni and Oni Lady costume sets. None of these change damage. You apply them from Change Appearance inside the Spirit Mirror menu, which unlocks separately from the charm screen. If you bought Deluxe for Raizan and cannot find it, you are early in the spine, not refunded.
Oni Armaments and tools
Bow, dual clubs, spear — the Armaments shown in previews. They spend blue souls, they hit like special weapons, and kills with them refund extra yellow. The souls guide is the economy; the combat page is the moves. D-pad items in the control map include a lantern-bag style consumable on “up” in the Japanese chart. Treat those as limited heals or tools until the full item list ships. Do not write a fake crafting tree. Onimusha has never been that game, and nothing Capcom has shown suggests it became one.
Environmental objects are items in the only sense that matters in a fight: tatami, carts, tables. They are not inventory. They are the room. The map of Kiyomizu-dera is full of them on purpose.
What will be filled in after launch
Upgrade costs, charm stacking rules, whether you can wear two charms, collectible counts, and whether any sword skin was lying about being cosmetic. Until those menus exist in a review build, this page will not invent a tier list. If you want a “build,” the honest pre-launch build is: Kubi Akari on, Lion Dog on if you pre-ordered, and a defensive lane from the how to play page. That is the whole theorycraft.

Frequently asked questions
Are sword skins just cosmetic?
Yes. CAPCOM’s pre-order notes say they do not alter battle performance.
Where do I equip charms?
On the Equipment screen, which unlocks as you progress. Spirit Mirrors unlock appearance changes on a separate gate.
Does Kubi Akari stack with Lion Dog?
Unconfirmed. Both are charms. Slot count is not public yet.
Is there a weapon wheel of katanas?
The demo centres one sword plus Armaments. A multi-sword inventory like older Onimusha may return; it has not been shown as a loadout screen.
